Week 2:
Finally, VSMMC! I was really looking forward to this hospital, knowing that it is the best training ground for us students because various cases of various degrees are present everyday. It's like a medical market of bustles and hustles. Our group was assigned in Ward 5 (Male Surgical Ward), and yeah, it was a busy ward.
There were many, MANY things that happened throughout that week of duty. I have learned a lot of things, and have done most of the procedures that we have returned demonstration in school. But you know what the shocking thing was?
We were the FIRST freshmen to go on duty with the higher years of different schools. And boy, they were shocked...and amazed to have us working there! The feedback we received were the words we could never forget, and they made our hearts swell with pride (but we never brought them in our heads. nah uh.)
Everything was UNBELIEVABLE.
The charts, the CASES, the therapeutic communication, the procedures, the therapies, the meds, the DIAPERS, the postmortem... everything!
And the most inspiring thing was when every time you've performed something for the patient, and you've done it well, they'd call you and say,
"THANK YOU kaayo Daie."
Whoa. That's the best thing one could hear after some hardwork! These words would compensate the weariness we feel after our shift, the pending and piling requirements we have to do when we reach our homes, and the effort we've wholly given just to meet our patients needs.
And that's one of the reaons why Nursing is such so noble, right?
:D

We have just finished our duty weeks. My first week in CCMC was in the morning, and the next one was pm.
Week 1:
I was assigned in the OPD on my first week, and whoa, there were lots of people swarming in for consultation. There were mini wards in that department, and on the first day I was in the OB-Gnyne section. It was the busiest section that day. My first patient was a 19-yr-old pregnant woman (on her 8th month), and she was so tiny that she was tinier than me! She actually never took her eyes off me all the time, probably thinking,
"Shucks, she's younger than me. Why is she working here, so young?"
Heh heh.
The second day I was assigned in the Pediatrics section, where you could expect lots and lots of kids of various ages. Again, it was the busiest section, but then it was pretty fun.
On the third day, when Sir Ragay asked me on where i wanted to be, I automatically said, "Surgery section, sir." I've been looking forward to that mini ward for two days already, thinking that I could witness even minor surgeries. But I was not allowed inside because Sir won't let us assist. Brrrr. I understand, though. He's got his reasons. But the opportunity!! Kyuu... (takdan nko ni Ma Jo. hehe.)

We had our enema and parenteral about two weeks ago. Last week was our very first hospital exposure.
Yep, I have a lot of things to share. :D
Enema:
It was something both funny and ticklish. The catheter was something that brought both embarrassment and fun. Really! When it was inserted, one could feel the whoosh, the weird feeling of something being pulled after the gushing rhythm of the soapy solution inside...
Injection: (done with distilled water instead of real meds)
Intradermal- they say it's the most painful injection among the three. But I didn't agree. Indeed it was painful, but it was tolerable. (I had fun scaring my classmates' wits out, since I was the very first female patient who experienced it. Heh heh.)
Subcutaneous- Aw, that was the real pain! it made my upper arm numb for more than an hour. The needle was not painful; the water was!
Intramuscular-Ouch! It gave me the creeps. Injected in my butt... i didn't walk properly for a couple of minutes.
Duty:
(I'll save this for a few more days. I'll finish this duty week first before going through the details.)
Char.
Hehe!
Happy Valentine's! I mean... Single Awareness Day!
